Letters

CHALLENGE

When you have limited time and a lot to say, count on letters to punch above their weight!

OPPORTUNITY

Particularly when combined with a branded envelope, letters with a personal touch from a public figure at an organization have extra resonance for subscribers, donors, and attendees.

The format also means last-minute additions can often be accommodated more easily than with a brochure or postcard, and letters are less expensive to produce and mail.

My job is to work with the signer to channel their voice, while creating a tone appropriate for the intended audience, and collaborating with the designer on an attractive layout to be sure that important information is eye-catching and easy to find.

CELEBRATE BILL CHARLAP'S 10TH SEASON AS JAZZ IN JULY ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Dear Valued Subscriber:

For 30 years, 92Y’s Jazz in July Festival has been New York’s summer home for the world’s most revered and emerging jazz artists, in the city’s acoustically best space to enjoy concerts. I am especially excited to announce this season’s lineup, as we celebrate Bill Charlap’s 10th anniversary as Artistic Director.

Favorite stars including Dick Hyman and Jeremy Pelt are returning, and we are thrilled to introduce to our stage the sensational young jazz singer Cécile McLorin Salvant. Cécile was declared by NPR to be “one of the breakout jazz stars of 2013;” this is guaranteed to be a hot ticket!

As an important subscriber, you enjoy the biggest discount available, the best seats in the house, and a savings of 25% off single tickets. Don’t miss out on your benefits; renew your subscription by February 28.

Details of the full season, starting July 22, are on the opposite site of this page. Here are some highlights:

HOAGY CARMICHAEL: STARDUST

Carmichael’s jazz roots influenced his songwriting (“Georgia on my Mind,” “Up a Lazy River”) and through the influence and improvisation of friends like Bix Beiderbecke and Louis Armstrong, the music captures the heart and soul of America. In the spirit of jazz, you’ll hear hit songs as you’ve never heard them before.

CÉCILE McLORIN SALVANT WITH THE BILL CHARLAP TRIO: CELEBRATING SARAH VAUGHAN

A Thelonious Monk Competition Win, two CDs, a Grammy® nomination, two New York Times profiles—and not yet 25! A new star is here: Cécile McLorin Salvant, a phenomenal French-American singer who honors Sarah Vaughan, one of the first jazz artists presented by 92Y.

I WON'T DANCE: THE FRED ASTAIRE SONGBOOK

“No singer knows his way around a song like Fred Astaire,” said Irving Berlin. He would know—Astaire introduced some of Berlin’s biggest hits—and those of Gershwin, Kern, Mercer, Porter, and more legends. For our swinging finale we’ll go “steppin’ out” with Fred.

Renew your subscription today. There’s no other place in New York like 92Y and no better way to enjoy Jazz in July to the fullest than by subscribing. We look forward to seeing you again!

Sincerely,

Hanna Arie-Gaifman, Director
